Outlander, Both Sides Now Photo Recap
Warning for spoilers and triggering content.
The mid-season finale was here and it was just as horrible and perfect as Outlander has promised to remain so far.
Jamie decided it would be a good time to talk about their feelings and ask if Claire ever felt this way with another man.
She began to say it often feels like this but ended up saying no one else compared to Jamie.
Then suddenly an arrow came out of nowhere and they were caught off guard. (Very much the theme of the episode in a way)
Luckily, Jamie knew who it belonged to.
This adorable person was full of sunshine and news.
Then he noticed Claire. (Just enjoy every single face he makes because Simon Meacock basically stole the scenes as Hugh Munro)
He was immediately cute and nice and Jamie translated his sign language to Claire.
Though he didn’t really need to translate this one.
He had an important message for Jamie but he said he’d give it later.
He really liked Claire.
Then he gave her a meaningful wedding gift because he’s obviously the best and most civilized friend Jamie has.
I am so done. (And completely enamoured with Hugh Munro)
Then Jamie saw that he had his tokens showing his licence to beg.
Jamie then told Claire how Hugh was captured and tortured, then he was enslaved and had his tongue cut off. (whoa)
He left and I was sad. So were The Frasers. (They should totally adopt him)
Then Jamie explained how proving his innocence would improved their married life.
Real smooth, Jamie dear.
But Claire seemed like she was literally in between two worlds/husbands.
Then they were back to being grossly cute again.
I love making the rings talk.
We had Frank’s ring which was completely heartbroken.
And the Reverend had some interesting theories.
Let me just:
But look who showed up??
Roger McCute Wakefield.
And Frank’s longing for a child was subtly hinted at.
He decided to drink his feelings.
And this lady showed up.
She told him to meet her in somewhere private and bring his money. That sounds like something safe to do!
Back in 18th century, Highlanders were just chilling.
Forever laughing at cranky Dougal and his obvious displeasure of watching Jamie and Claire’s display of affection.
But they weren’t alone. Horses picked up on some strangers’ presence.
Highlanders kept their cool.
Then of course the fight began with the cheerful music.
Even Ned got to shoot someone.
They were all fine and even happier than before.
Because they really really love to fight.
Back with Frank and the obvious trap:
Oh, dear me.
What a surprise.
But Frank was ready.
Frank seemed disturbed by his ability to be violent.
Maybe it was from all the stress, or maybe he was born with it.
The Reverend was very insightful.
He told Frank to give up on Claire and leave her behind and even quoted Sherlock Holmes.
Then Jamie once again tried to impress Claire with his dirk balancing abilities.
He told her she should know how to fight.
And reminded her that trouble basically finds him everywhere.
Dougal perspective: (Someone really regrets his relentless matchmaker skills)
Angus was chosen to teach Claire the ways of badassery.
I am here for this:
Claire’s a fast learner and the men were impressed.
Rupert strikes again, telling her not to kill Angus yet. (lol)
I present you her devoted fans:
Poor Willie didn’t seem so sure.
Scenes like this warm my heart.
Then we were back with Frank who wasn’t having as much fun.
Jamie, hilariously told Claire he felt like a god when they were together.
Claire’s face speaks for mine.
These two creeps wanted to join them.
Jamie couldn’t really move without getting shot and we had this literally dirty bastards put his literally dirty hands on Claire, aka our precious baby.
I think this event was actually the first one to wake Claire up in a way.
She’s been assaulted before but coming so close to being raped, having to save herself and killing a man when it’s the last thing she ever wanted to do as a “healer” was a bigger shock for her.
Frank was also struggling with the idea that Claire had actually left him.
Claire was visibly upset at herself and Jamie.
He told her he was going to see the two rocks dude alone because it could be a trap.
But mostly she seemed to be having an inner resistance to the fact that she actually didn’t mind being here anymore save for the occasional life threatening situations.
Tobias Menzies killed it in this scene. It was heart breaking to watch Frank almost mourning Claire in front of those giant stones that resemble tombstones in a way.
Jack didn’t enjoy losing control of the situation.
She was stopped by Corporal Anxiety. (But honestly she could just headbutt him or pinch him or something. He’s like a harmless Pikachu in uniform.
So I loved the mid-season finale and even though I know what’s going to happen, I can’t wait for the rest of the season.
I’m especially excited about certain book moments to come but in the name of keeping this recap spoiler free, let’s talk about the episode instead.
